EdTech Evidence Exchange

The EdTech Evidence Exchange project aimed to help educators make evidence-based edtech decisions appropriate for their context. The ultimate goal was to reduce edtech spending waste, allowing districts to equitably transform learning experiences with technology and positively impact student outcomes.

In 2021, the Exchange significantly progressed its efforts with the publication of “The EdTech Genome Project Report” which articulated a common language to help describe effective edtech implementation created by a cross-sector working group of more than 140 organizations. The report included both the Context Framework, definitions for the ten variables influencing edtech implementation, and the Context Inventory, a validated survey tool to measure across these dimensions. Learn more at the link below.

The Exchange was acquired by InnovateEDU in 2023. When it comes to effective edtech implementation, context still matters. The organization continues to advance this idea today, building on the Context Framework and valuable research of the Exchange through its Edtech and Markets portfolio.

BIRD-E

Based on the intervention that accelerated the connection between research and practice in healthcare, the Blueprint for Inclusive Research and Development in Education (BIRD-E) aimed to modernize education research infrastructure. Specifically, the project focused on making education research more aligned, usable, discoverable, and actionable for improving teaching and learning in today’s classrooms through the creation of a data schema.

Over three years, more than 70 stakeholders, including researchers, practitioners, and federal agency partners collaborated to outline key education data elements and then pilot their use across a diverse set of real-world research projects. In spring 2022, InnovateEDU published both the Core and Advanced Versions of the BIRD-E Blueprint.

The Core Blueprint is a critical set of elements that facilitate structured data compilation to understand the impact of a specific intervention on improving student outcomes. The Advanced Blueprint contains elements that allow stakeholders to conduct more nuanced research and evaluation. Taken together, the Blueprint helps improve the articulation of data across the many stakeholders involved in education R&D and allows for equitable participation in inclusive, accessible, and robust research efforts.
