After School Programming
InnovateEDU creates next generation learning experiences beyond the regular school day, providing afterschool programming for middle school students in the Downtown Brooklyn area. Our current program operates out Brooklyn Laboratory Charter School, and is offered with support of the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development School’s Out NYC (SONYC) initiative.
Through daily small group and team enrichments, students explore new fields and learning spaces in the arts, STEM, literacy, and athletics. Our students are members of competitive debate and robotics teams, are producing original theatrical and filmed work, and are learning to code, write, dance, and design. By affording middle school students the space to engage in hands-on learning and to work alongside professional makers and thinkers, we are helping to foster young leaders in our schools and community.
DYCD is back at Brooklyn Lab for the 2022 - 2023 school year!
Exciting News - Digitunity Grant
Through a generous grant from AT&T through their Digitunity program, our after school STEM students are participating in a series of training and knowledge building modules around digital literacy basic and online safety, including using social media. This exciting program supports the students in our after-school partnership with InnovateEDU and New York City's DYCD/SONYC program to ensure our young people are prepared to safely engage in an increasingly digital world.
When?
Our first day will be Monday, September 12th, 2022.
Afterschool will run immediately after dismissal each day that Brooklyn Lab Middle School is in session, and will include enrichment classes, athletics, open recreation, study hall, and monthly field trips. Families will be notified directly of any cancellation or closure of the Afterschool Program, as far in advance as possible.
Our school year program hours are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3:45 to 5:30 pm and Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3:45 pm.
Field trips and special events will take place one Wednesday per month, and also during the Mid-Winter and Spring Break Recesses.
